The Friends of Paul Sawyier Public Library welcomes volunteers in all areas of our organization:
Bookstore – Work in the Lilian Lindsey Bookstore assisting customers and cashiering. This is a great opportunity to interact with our customers, representing a broad spectrum of interested and engaged community members and visitors. (The bookstore is open M-Th 10-6, Sat 10-2. Shifts are for 2 hrs.)
Donation Intake – The Friends Bookstore receives donations of books, magazines, DVDs, and CDs every day. The intake area is where volunteers determine which section of the store these items will be displayed for sale or if they will be directed toward the next book sale.
Pricing and Shelving – Learn how prices are determined and how our volunteers shelve items to catch the eye. Volunteers may choose to work in most of our sections, from novels and biographies to cookbooks, children’s, science fiction and lots more. Volunteers also review shelved materials on a regular basis to ensure materials don’t remain in the store for too long – providing for a constantly refreshed inventory.
Seasonal Opportunities – The bookstore holds several multi-day sales each year. Volunteers are always needed to help set up the displays by category before, assist customers during, and tear everything down afterwards. This is another great opportunity to interact with our customers and meet other volunteers. We also have opportunities to assist with Library events from time to time, such as the Gathering of Authors.
Friends Board – The Friends Board elects its Directors-at-Large during the October Board meeting to serve a 2 year term starting the following January. Board members serve on a variety of committees in support of the Paul Sawyier Public Library’s mission to meet the educational, informational, and cultural needs of the greater Frankfort community.
